For one weekend this month, the music from all your favorite musicals will be showcased in Seattle. Betsy Wolfe and Jeremy Jordan bring you the best of Broadway Today with the Seattle Symphony on January 12–14, performing a salute to music from dozens of shows, including Les Misérables, Book of Mormon, Chicago, The Phantom of the Opera and many more.
Wolfe, who previously held roles in The Last Five Years and Falsettos, is concluding a seven-month run in the Broadway production of Waitress, where she has been serving up the lead role since June 2017. You can watch an excerpt from the production below:
After departing the show on January 9, her first stop is Seattle. “I’ve only been in Seattle once, for about an hour in 2005. I flew into the airport, sang a private event, and flew out again,” laughs Wolfe. “I remember watching the city fly past and wishing I could explore it. So I’m really looking forward to performing and spending more time in Seattle!”
Wolfe will appear alongside Jeremy Jordan, who received a Tony for his performances in the Disney production of the musical Newsies. Jordan is currently featured on the TV series Supergirl. “It’s not often that you find this combo of great acting with one of the most beautiful voices on Broadway,” says Wolfe. “But Jeremy has it all.”
In addition to her stage credits, Wolfe has performed with more than 40 orchestras around the country, including the New York Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She has even appeared in a Metropolitan Opera production of Richard Strauss’ Die Fledermaus in 2013.
“I’ve heard really wonderful things about the Seattle Symphony,” says Wolfe. “I love performing with orchestras and being onstage with these fantastic musicians. The experience is very different since you can interact with the players.”
The program includes selections from the top four longest running musicals on Broadway: The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, The Lion King and Cats, as well as modern classics “Falling Slowly” from Once, “You and Me (But Mostly Me)” from Book of Mormon and “Suddenly Seymour” from Little Shop of Horrors.
“I love every single song on this program,” says Wolfe. “This show is almost relentless in a way. It just keeps getting better and better, with one favorite after another.”
Wolfe and Jordan previously performed the production with conductor Steven Reineke and the Houston Symphony in November 2017. “When we did the program in Houston, people came out for every single night, they loved the show so much,” explains Wolfe. “It really is a lot of fun, and I hope you’ll join us for this magical evening.”
