Alexander Lu is a Junior at the International Community School in Kirkland and studies piano with Dr. Sasha Starcevich. Lu was the Grand Prize winner of the inaugural “King FM Ten Grands Young Artist Award” competition and has been featured in the “Ten Grands” concerts five times since age 10. Most recently in January 2017, he was named a National YoungArts Winner in Classical Music and was one of only six teen pianists from across the country invited to the prestigious National YoungArts Week in Miami, FL. In 2016, Lu was awarded the Grand Prize in the “King FM Young Artist Award” competition for the second time, received the Monika Clowes Memorial award and was featured in the Seattle Chamber Music Festival. Also in 2016, he became the first classical pianist receiving a Grand Prize in the ENKOR International Music Competition. Lu was a semi-finalist in the 2014 Cooper International Piano Competition and 2015 Virginia Waring International Piano Competition and competed in the 2015 International e-Piano Junior Competition. He made his orchestral debut with the Philharmonia Northwest as the youngest winner of 2013 Seattle Young Artist Music Festival, and has since performed with the Seattle Symphony, the Ashdod Symphony Orchestra from Israel, and the University of Alicante Orchestra from Spain. Lu has appeared in performances at New York’s Carnegie Hall, Miami’s New World Symphony Center, Portland’s Arlene Schnitzer Hall, and Italy’s Basilica san Pietro. He maintains an active performing schedule in local communities including senior living centers, rotary clubs, and fund raising events for the various arts communities in the Northwest.
